LOVE + LOVE = ?

When we experience the totality of love our lives change. We respond differently when someone says that they are in love. Even if you were not expecting love it usually brings a smile to one’s face, and a happy feeling in your heart. But not all love is the same. Sometimes we love on different levels and even different types. Let’s listen to Jesus’ answer about Love.

We find Jesus and the disciples in Jerusalem where Jesus is being asked a series of questions. We are looking at Mark’s account of the events (Mark 12: 13-34) our emphasis begins at verse 28. Jesus was asked about taxes because the Jewish people had to pay taxes to Rome. He was asked about Resurrection by the Sadducee’s because the Sadducee’s did not believe in being resurrected. Finally, He was asked what is the greatest commandment?

IN MARK’S WRITINGS THE EMPHASIS IS PUT ON LOVE. LISTEN IN :

One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.””
Mark 12:28-31 NLT

Jesus’ answer was Love plus Love to the all who would listen. Love God with all that is within you! Love your neighbor as yourself.

On Valentine’s Day there is a lot of emphasis on love spread around. It’s a day that like the holidays brings good memories, and sad memories for lots of people. Regardless of what the day brings, it will be a better day if you start it by expressing your love to God. Then, lend a hand to your neighbor. Follow the example of Jesus and let everyone know that Love + Love = eternity!
