14 Nov Grab Hold to Opportunity to Let Your Light Shine
Be wise in the way you act towards those who are not believers, making good use of every opportunity you have.” Colossians 4:3, 5 GNB
As a child, we often would leave the lights on in the day time. Our parents would come in the room and cut the light out because it was not needed at that time. But when we entered a dark room, we immediately cut the lights back on. Light shining amongst other lights did not have the same effect as the light that ended the darkness.
Christians are commanded to make disciples for Christ (Matthew 28:18-20). Our lives are being used to light up the darkness in a very dark world. We don’t have to be a coward on any night for we have been given power through our Lord, Jesus Christ! Go and make disciples! Take advantage of the opportunities that are placed before us!
Halloween is believed to be a very dark night. We posted about our thoughts on if Christians should celebrate Halloween. However, we don’t advocate turning from Christianity to Paganism. In over 2000 years the end of October has been celebrated in some fashion. It still is changing. Halloween is only second to Christmas in sales. It shares the same space in stores. The day that we chose to celebrate the birth of Christ is quickly being pushed back with Halloween.
People love celebrating. But, it is still a night with celebrations of darkness! Where is the light? We are the light! Where is the power that God has released into this world? Christians have the power through the gift of the Holy Spirit! We are the temple of the Holy Spirit! Therefore we pray as The Apostle Paul prayed, “God give us a good opportunity to preach his message about the secret of Christ…” What a great night to bring the light!
Let us be wise and seek opportunities to spread the Gospel for today is the day of salvation! Over the last 2000 years Halloween has changed but Christ is the same! We can reach into the enemy’s world with power and light; and on October 31st generations from now can be a day of testimony because Christians came out with the power and authority given to us by the death and resurrection of Christ, and shone light into the darkness.
We can be the light in ways that draw people to Christ and not chase them away. We live, eat go to schools and work in communities that need our help every day. If we open our eyes and pray for God to give the opportunity to reach the lost, we will make disciples for Christ!
Hear the Apostles Paul, One of his final prayers to those who carry the word and shine the light. “At the same time pray also for us, so that God will give us a good opportunity to preach his message about the secret of Christ. For that is why I am now in prison.
Be wise in the way you act towards those who are not believers, making good use of every opportunity you have.” Colossians 4:3, 5 GNB Be aware, be bold, today is the day to lead someone to Christ!
“For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.” 2 Corinthians 4:6-7 NLT
